One thing for sure… as a good friend, Reed Thorne, says, “knowledge is light in the rucksack and not easily left behind”. Technical rescue and rigging can be a frightful thing to the ill-prepared. Fortunately, there are numerous books that are easily brought to any practice or event. They are compact and the illustrations and photos are amazing.

The first is the Technical Rescue Riggers Guide 2nd Edition (Rick Lipke). The second is the Essential Technical Rescue Field Operations Guide. Both are standards in the industry. For the knot hound, Knots for the Rescue Service is a great addition to any library.

These are just two of many out there. Study the art and practice when possible. We could easily become “our brother’s keeper”.
