Rescue Response Gear’s Horitzonal Rigging Video Trailer and Training Courses

Share

We have had an amazing year so far. Raven Media has been a huge help in getting Rescue Response Gear’s Rigging Lab and RRG TV off the ground. People from all over the world are now viewing and learning from our media products. We have a long way to go and have made some mistakes, but you don’t learn unless you take risks. We so appreciate everyone’s feedback and help throughout this year… So thank you.

This course covers Horizontal Systems which is any rigging that requires some aspect of highly controlled influence from some other point separate from the original fall line. Usually people associate this with highlines. This course not only addresses that wonderful world of highlines, but will also give the participant a solid foundation with additional efficiency techniques such as Dynamic Directionals and Two Rope Systems.
This soon to be released video touches the basic elements of Horizontal Rigging.

For more information on the following courses; Horizontal Rigging, NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Technician, Rigging Physics, Confined Space Entry and Rescue or to have a custom course brought to your area, contact us at www.rescueresponse.com or 888-600-9116.

Rappel and Pick-Off Training Video

Share

In rescue, rappelling is a common method for quick patient access from above when climbing down to the patient is impractical or unsafe.

The pick-off is a rescue method whereby the rescuer either rappels or is lowered from above to the victim. The rescuer secures and transfers the victim to the rescuer’s system. Here are two videos showing this method by Peak Rescue and COSAR and filmed by Raven Collective Media.

Crossfire Trailer: the passion, the commitment, the message, The Crux

Share

A good friend of ours is now a client of our film and video partner Raven Media.  Enjoy the piece.

The Crossfire Message

To admit that we split the realm of reality and illusion is a frightful thing and that we actually live on “the broken side of the plane”.  It means we are in serious need of Help and Grace.

We find ourselves in the Crossfire, where two worlds, opposed to each, vie for dominance over the other.  Are we innocent bystanders or main characters on the stage?  Your world-view would determine the answer to this question.

To admit we don’t matter is to admit that the broken don’t either.  To confess we have a purpose is to force the question… why don’t take a stand for the broken?

A stand for what? A stand for who? What about me… Who takes a stand for me?

Those that understand that glory is not something attained but walked through, understand what Passion is.  To Commit themselves to the admonition that we must care and therefore we do; a decision, not a feeling.  To not just say, we love, but too love.  To put our lives in a place that shows others, we care enough to stop and stay for a while.  The Crux is this… reality is someone else’s illusion, but the only illusion in this world is the lie that says It doesn’t exist and thus… the Crossfire.

The simple Truth… we are loved.  We started as dirt and loved because of it.

Boulder Bash 2

Share

Rescue Response Gear works with a variety of manufacturers and vendors through out North America. We also partner up with a number of media styled groups as well… one of those is Raven Collective Media. Raven, a newly formed media production company is styled to bring the concept of “Brand in Use” to it’s clients. Currently in production with 3 on-going education projects, Raven will have their doors open to the public by late January 2011 and their website will be live then as well.

Bend Rock Gym (Bend, Oregon) during the winter, hosts four bouldering contests/social events during the months from November through February. The Boulder Bash, as they are known as, is purely a fun time. Numerous members (past and present) of Deschutes County Search and Rescue and Jefferson County Search and Rescue help to put the events together.

Torrey Piatt and Adam Ermatinger, both staff personnel at RRG and contributors to the Raven “cause” donate their time and resources (camera work and editing) to the endeavor of Bend Rock Gym. Both Torrey and Adam are volunteers with Solid Rock Climbers for Christ as well… SRCFC Director Calvin Landrus is typically found setting routes for the event (an arduous task at best).

Life’s Gear Pieces

Share

A friend of mine, Darren Jeffrey, of Alpine Training Services, has come up with a great way of keeping “our options open” while canyoneering or climbing. His thoughts center around three small pieces of gear and the knowledge of when, how and why.

Stretching things a bit, “one day at a time” is a mantra many of us have. We surf, climb, ski, trail run, bike ect… and these activities help to form a “casual, less stressed life”. However, when the stress of life creeps in and grabs us at an unexpected moment (the 10% of our life), how we deal with this moment defines who we are (the 90% of our life). The moment in question rarely escalates to the point of having to remove your hand (like Aron Ralston), but the moments prior to his event, most certainly formed his make up in order to make such a radical call.

The new ATS device from Sterling Rope (designed by Darren and manufactured by Rock Exotica), the Hollow Block and the new Chain Reactor, have specific purposes and individually, work well for their own applications; Together though, they create a very cool “platform” to work from. Experience however, will dictate how well you use them and under what circumstances the pieces are used. We have included four videos that show only a very small example as to what can be done with such simple pieces of gear.

What is my point here? Life is about challenges and solutions. More often than not, the solutions are not 100% to our liking or satisfaction; they certainly were not for Aron. Very few are called on to make such a drastic decision that involves amputation. However, life is much more subtle. Amputation of emotions, relationships and faith are much more important in the long run.

Getting out of a tight spot is one thing, but not recognizing clear signals when our lives are dangerously in peril of getting out of control is another. Faith, hope and love are Life’s “gear pieces”. And while reality and living can eventually lead too some deep canyons in our lives, having walked the steps in preparation before hand, will go a long way in determining our destiny and future. And there is One who has gone before us.

Anti Panic vs. Rapid Decent: Petzl ID or Petzl RIG?

Share

In a world ruled by fear…one devise rises above the fray…

Ok so maybe it is not that cut and dry but there are really three different chooses here the ID L the ID S and the RIG:

Whenever I take someone out to rappel, I try to start him or her on one of the ID’s because of the anti panic function that is unique to these Petzl devices.  In the event a person tries to descend too quickly, by pulling hard on the handle that controls descent, both ID’s will engage the cam that controls descent.  The handle can be reset and the person can continue down.  In the event something catches on the handle the ID will stop.  This is a great security feature for those who are new to the vertical realm and/ or appreciate the extra safety.  The only draw back is keeping this function from engaging when you want to descend rapidly – enter the RIG.

The RIG is a step between the GriGri and the ID.  It has a safety gate, which allows threading the rope with out disconnecting the carabiner, a larger handle, and accepts larger ropes then the GriGri.  It also does not have the anti-panic function found on the ID.  This allows the experienced professional to descend at any rate.  In an emergency, the professional would need to have the presence of mind to let go of the handle in order to stop the descent.  Letting go is not a normal reaction to falling.  The trade off is you don’t have the anti-panic function engaging when you just want to move fast.

All the above Petzl products are available at Rescue Response Gear as well as lots of other information and training videos.
