Rock Exotica | Pulleys, Swivels, Ascenders, Carabiners, Tripods & Multipods

Rock Exotica was started in a small garage in 1987. Rock Thompson had been experimenting with solo belay devices and purchased a war surplus mill for $250. He and his wife took it apart and rebuilt it over Christmas time to make it operable. The mill was all manual, so Rock had to turn both handles at the same time to make curves. The resulting device worked well, although it looked like something a caveman might have carved out.

A few months later more modern equipment was purchased and Rock Exotica began business. The company quickly became known for machining products out of solid alloy, which no one else was doing at the time due to the expense. Climbers and rescue people began contacting Rock Exotica asking and suggesting other high-end pieces of equipment. Some of the classic early products were the Wall Hauler, the Rescucender, the first Prusik-minding pulleys, and (admitted not very creatively named) the Swivel.

The company prospered and in the early 1990’s Rock began working in another venture making carabiners for a European company. Many of the Rock Exotica products became privately branded for another company.

In the early 2000’s Rock Exotica once again became active in designing and manufacturing the unique equipment we do best. The machinery is a little bit different now. We have a dozen high-end CNC machines. Some of the equipment includes machines that few, if any, in the industry have, such as high speed horizontal machining centers and multi-axis multi-task machines.

$4,030.00
727300
Manufactured by TMI The new AZ Vortex Multipod is the next evolution of the Arizona Vortex. Named the "Multipod" because of its flexibility, it has a two-piece break-apart head that can be rigged as a standard tripod, or in advanced applications, as an A-Fram, a sideways A-Frame, or a Gin Pole. The "easel" leg allows the tripod to be leaned to form an easel A-Frame, placing anchor points closer to the cliff or stucture edge. With adjustable leg lengths and a versatile third leg, te Mulitpod lets rescuers set up an artificial high directional in virtually any urban, industrial or wilderness location. Three different types of Vortex feet are available to provide secure footing on varying terrain. The AZ Vortex multipod comes complete with:
  • 1 Head Set
  • 3 Upper Legs
  • 7 Lower Legs
  • 1 Head Bag
  • 4 Leg Bags
  • 1 Pin Bag
  • 4 Head Pins
  • 11 Leg Pins

The Rock Exotica™ OMNI BLOCK® 2.0 is the latest OMNI BLOCK to be added to the Rock Exotica family. The unique prusik minding, side rotating, swivel pulley is truly another Rock Exotica first.

Continuing with the notion that standard rescue pulleys, with their side swing plate and limited access, increase the time it takes to implement, the 2.0 allows the pulley to be clipped into the system before inserting the rope. The double locking side plate of the 2.0 adds an additional layer of safety.
