Rescue Response Gear Newsletter - 2004 Issue 08
Newsletter 8 Introduction
by Lance Piatt
The job requires time, energy and money…. Mostly time. Time, we may not have (or budgeted for). Often, to our own demise, we opt to take the quickest and easiest way out. We know what it takes to do the job, but for some reason, don’t take the time necessary to do it right. It has often been noted, that a particular job requires a particular tool or… the right knot for the right job.
By its very nature, vertical rescue and rope access is dependent on rope and the most elemental skill in using rope is tying it into a knot. There is no gray area, no “in betweens” in tying knots.
Most of us answer to someone (upper management, an officer, wife, husband…Board of Directors). Our very core (the bare essence of who we are) want to please those we love or serve under, while at the same time, combat this with an independent mind set that says, I’ll do it my way. These two minds conflict; one will not serve the other. Eventually, one must give way to the other. In the end, the proof of success is found in the finished product. Much like a knot.
To that, our ears long to hear… Well-done, good and faithful servant!
