Newsletter Introduction, 2007 Issue 1
What do I want? What do I need?
Am I willing to go through what it takes to get what I need? Where does “want” fit in?
Apocalyto (a recently released movie) is the story of two fathers (the words of one and the actions taken by the other). The movie focuses on a certain aspect of one Jaguar Paw and his battle with fear. It isn’t something he realizes he is fighting until he comes to a point when he knows he can no longer run. At that point, the words of his father ring loud and clear... “Do not be afraid”; you are my son”!

Industry Update - Personal Escape/Safety Systems
Fire departments should have procedures for RIT (Rapid Intervention Teams) in place, but many departments have not addressed the increasing need for Personal Escape/Safety/Bail-out Systems (PSS). While RIT deals with the concept of team intervention, PSS deals solely with equipment/devices that should be part of the firefighter’s PPE.

Rock Exotica Omni Block 1.5 Double Swivel Pulley
$120.95
OM15D

Incredibly quick to attach, the Rock Exotica Omni Block 1.5 Double is a high strength (36 kN), swiveling rope block/pulley. Like RE's popular swivel connector, these pulleys eliminate twisting from rope rigging systems with smooth, ball bearing action. Each precision fabricated alloy block has a unique button-activated release feature that allows instant access to the sheave for midline attachment. The milled alloy attachment eye is large enough to accept most carabiners and snaps. Pulley sheave is 1.5 in. and accepts up to 13mm rope.

There are many sayings you'll hear during a rope rescue course; "stop... photo-op!" and "don't spill your coffee". However, this brings the term "taking five" to a new level. Sweet dreams Scott Bye.
