Participants will have the opportunity to test drive Petzl descent control devices such as the tactical EXO system and learn more about how to ascend and position partners with this device. Rapid ascending, descending and switchovers will be covered on other lightweight Petzl equipment. Roof-top operations such as the set-up of releasable anchor systems as well as rigging lowering and raising systems using Petzl’s S.O.S. kit will also be addressed.

Workshop participants will learn Petzl’s recommendations for care, maintenance, and inspection of life safety equipment. The program will cover practical techniques and procedures required to conduct thorough examinations, produce inspection reports, and specify corrective action when needed. Considerations for creating a thorough life safety equipment management system and inspection regime will also be covered.

Event | .Petzl .Arborist Climbing & Rescue Workshop. | August 26-27, 2010
Petzl course # ARB082610
Sign-Up Deadline: July 30, 2010
Workshop participants will learn about advanced tree-climbing systems that make tree climbing safer, easier, and more efficient. Topics will include single rope and double rope techniques, limb walking, and climbing rope installation / retrieval. Basic concepts of physics and mechanical advantage will be introduced as they relate to climbing systems. Arborist ascent and aerial rescue techniques will also be covered. Drop tests will be performed to demonstrate the strengths and limitations of key pieces of equipment.

Peak Rescue Institute | Technician & Specialist Courses
October 4-10,   2010
PRI's Technician Level Course is an entry level program and no prior experience is required. However, even skilled rescuers will be challenged. The curriculum was developed to meet NFPA 1006 guidelines for Rope Technicians.
PRI's Specialist Level Course is designed for Technician Level graduates who have a solid background in technical rope rescue and have a desire to build on their skills. On the first day of the Specialist Course, students must successfully pass an evaluation of Technician Level skills.
NOTE: Technician and Specialist courses run concurrently, October 4-10.
